A good Nashville itinerary for one weekend starts Friday evening on lower Broadway. Saturday goes to the Ryman and a music museum. Sunday is The Hermitage or the Parthenon. The Grand Ole Opry slots into whichever night its line-up suits. Book the Opry and the Ryman tour first, because the rest can wait until you land.

We have done enough city weekends, with nieces and nephews and without, to know the trick. Pick one fixed-time anchor and keep everything else loose. Every price and hour below is as each venue’s own page listed it on October 3, 2026. Check the page for your own dates.

Nashville weekend itinerary

The plan below keeps the walking downtown. It sends you out of the core only for the Opry House and the Sunday stop. It fits a Friday arrival and a Sunday-evening flight without rushing the ticketed parts.

DayAreaPlanGetting aroundCost on the date checked
Friday eveningLower BroadwayWalk the honky-tonk strip, hear a band or twoOn footNo cover at most Broadway bars
Saturday dayDowntownRyman tour, then the Country Music Hall of FameOn footRyman self-guided $25 + tax; Hall of Fame adult $31.95
Saturday nightOpry HouseA Grand Ole Opry showRideshare or drivePriced per show on the Opry’s site
SundayThe Hermitage or Centennial ParkThe mansion, or the ParthenonRideshare, WeGo or driveHermitage adult $29.95; Parthenon adult $15.00

Book three things before you leave home. Those are the Opry, the Ryman tour and any guided Hermitage tour. The Hall of Fame’s one-hour guided museum tour also needs advance purchase and costs $54.95 for an adult. Everything else works as a walk-up, and I would buy museum tickets online the night before if you want a set time.

Nashville itinerary 3 days

Friday evening belongs to lower Broadway. The bureau’s free live music guide says most Broadway bars with live music charge no cover and that the music runs from 10am until 3am. Tips for the band are the only cost of an hour or two.

I would treat Broadway as a walk-through, not the whole evening. After dark it is loud and crowded, and every door plays a different song. For a set where you can hear the lyrics, I would add one seated listening room on Saturday night. Read its cover charge on its own page first. Hot chicken or barbecue fits before or after, and nothing fancy is needed.

Saturday morning goes to the Ryman. Its tour page lists daytime tours from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The one-hour self-guided tour is $25 plus tax. The guided backstage tour is $42.52 plus tax. Children 12 and under tour free on the self-guided option with a paid adult. Events shorten tour hours on some days, so check the page before you pick a day.

Walk on to the Country Music Hall of Fame. It lists daily hours of 9 AM to 5 PM CT and adult admission of $31.95. The RCA Studio B guided tour is a $23.00 add-on, and the museum-plus-Studio B package is $54.95 for an adult.

The Johnny Cash Museum is the other museum on this stretch. It charges $32.95 plus tax and lists hours of 9:00am to 7:00pm. If I only had time for one, I would pick the Hall of Fame. The Studio B add-on gives the day a second stop.

Is the Grand Ole Opry worth it?

I would book the Opry first and build the weekend around it. It is the one fixed-time ticket in the plan, so everything else moves around it. The Opry’s homepage lists shows on Tuesday through Sunday evenings, and some Saturdays add a second, later show. Its events page has the nights and times for your dates.

Ticket prices sit on each show’s own page rather than the homepage, so check the night you want. The homepage also says some Opry performances are held at the Ryman, so read the venue line before you buy. Plan a rideshare or a drive to the Opry House, which is outside the downtown core.

Backstage tours are on sale too. A daytime tour is $46.65 for 50 minutes. A post-show tour is $45.00 and needs a show ticket. If the show is your only night, I would skip the tour. Spend that money on a second museum instead.

Nashville weekend trip

Sunday is a choice between history out of town and a park downtown. The Hermitage, Andrew Jackson’s home, lists adult admission at $29.95 and hours of 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with last tickets at 5:00 p.m. It is open daily except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

The Hermitage also sells a 90-minute VIP walking tour at $69.95 for non-members. Its 60-minute In Their Footsteps tour on the enslaved community is $49.95. If history is the reason you came, I would pick a guided tour over the plain ticket.

The Parthenon in Centennial Park is the shorter, cheaper choice. Its hours page lists Monday to Saturday 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM and Sunday 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM. Adults pay $15.00. In fall 2026 its home page still carried a notice of a temporary HVAC closure that was expected to end in late June 2026. Confirm it is open before you go.

The Frist Art Museum lists adult admission at $20 and is closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. During a fall 2026 gallery changeover it charged $10 through October 26, so check which price applies to your dates. Sunday hours run from 1 to 5:30 p.m.

The cheapest stop is the Tennessee State Museum, which is free and open Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. Its shared parking lot fills quickly on weekends, per the museum. The bureau’s free-things list also names Capitol tours, Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park and Hatch Show Print’s free gallery.

Nashville itinerary with kids

We have done big-city weekends with nieces and nephews along. The rule that works everywhere is one ticketed stop a day, with free time around it. In Nashville that means the Ryman or one museum, not both on the same morning. I would keep children on Broadway in the daytime only.

Several pages price children separately. Children 12 and under tour the Ryman free on the self-guided option with a paid adult. At the Hall of Fame, a child ticket for ages 6 to 12 is $21.95. Visitors 18 and younger get into the Frist free.

The Parthenon charges $10.00 for ages 4 to 17 and nothing under 4. Centennial Park around it covers 132 acres, per the bureau. That gives children room to run between the gold Athena statue and the lake.

The bureau also lists free or reduced entry for younger children at The Hermitage, the Nashville Zoo and Cheekwood. Ages differ by venue, so read each page before you rely on it. The State Museum is free for everyone.

Getting around Nashville

Downtown is walkable between the Ryman, Broadway and the museums, and a rideshare covers the rest. WeGo, the city bus system, charges $2.00 for a single local ride and $4.00 for a daily pass, per its fare page. You tap a contactless card or phone on the validator when you board.

From the airport, WeGo Route 18 costs $2 each way. Express trips take about 20 minutes, and local trips run 35 to 45 minutes. The pickup is at the Ground Transportation Center on Level 1 of the Terminal 2 Garage. The downtown stop is the Elizabeth Duff Transit Center at WeGo Central.

If you drive, the city’s paid parking page lists central-district meters at $2.00 an hour for the first two hours. Hours three and four run $5.00 an hour. Metro-owned garages range from $3 to $20 for an all-day maximum. Download an offline map before you arrive, because downtown streets and one-way blocks are easier with a map that does not buffer.

Summers are hot and humid. I would put the Parthenon and any park walk before noon. Keep the museums for the afternoon. The Ryman, the Hall of Fame and the Cash Museum are all indoors.

How much does a trip to Nashville cost?

Venue tickets are the part of a weekend you can price in advance. Adult admission is $31.95 at the Hall of Fame and $29.95 at The Hermitage. It is $20 at the Frist and $15.00 at the Parthenon. The State Museum is free. Hotel rates and flights move too fast to print here, so price those on the day you book. If you are driving in, our budget road trip guide covers the fuel and food side.

Can you do Nashville in a weekend?

Yes, if you pick one anchor a day. A weekend covers lower Broadway, the Ryman, one music museum, the Opry and one Sunday stop. It does not cover every museum. If you want a second stop afterward, our Chattanooga things to do guide is the natural next leg.

Do you need a car in Nashville?

Not for a downtown weekend. Walk between Broadway, the Ryman and the museums. Use a rideshare or WeGo for the Opry House and The Hermitage. A rental car mostly adds parking cost, per the meter and garage rates above.

What is the best Nashville weekend itinerary?

Friday evening on lower Broadway. Saturday at the Ryman and one music museum, with the Opry that night. Sunday at The Hermitage or the Parthenon. Move the Opry to whichever night its line-up suits, and book it before anything else.
