The easiest way to park for a Galveston cruise is a prepaid lot run by the Port of Galveston, matched to your ship’s terminal. The port has four cruise terminals, and each one has its own lots. A private lot off port can cost less on a long sailing, but its shuttle hours are tighter.
I would prepay a port lot for a first Galveston sailing and save the off-port experiments for later. On cruise-port mornings with nieces and nephews along, the car is never the hard part. The luggage and the clock are.
Where do you park for a cruise in Galveston?
You have three real choices. Park in a port lot within walking distance of your terminal, park in a port economy lot and take the free shuttle, or leave the car at a private lot off port. The port lots are the easiest to book and the easiest to find on the day.
Pick the terminal before you pick the lot. A lot that is a short walk from one terminal is a long way from another, and the shuttle only runs from certain lots.
Galveston cruise terminals
The port lists four cruise terminals: 10, 16, 25 and 28. Royal Caribbean sails from Terminal 10, and MSC and Norwegian use Terminal 16. Carnival is based at Terminal 25, with Disney and Princess on select sailings there, and Terminal 28 is Disney’s main berth, according to the port’s terminal page.
Lines do shift between terminals from one season to the next. Your cruise documents name the terminal, so treat them as the last word and book parking only after you have read them.

Galveston cruise parking Terminal 10
Terminal 10 has the longest list of lots. The port’s reservation page shows North Premium (100 solar-covered spaces), North (550 uncovered), South (660 uncovered), the Pier 10 and Pier 12 lots, and the Terminal 16 garage.
South Lot and the Terminal 16 garage run a free shuttle to Terminal 10. North Premium and Pier 10 are close enough that the port runs no shuttle to them.
Galveston cruise parking Terminal 25
Terminals 25 and 28 share four lots. The Express Lot (680 uncovered spaces) and the SMP Garage (400 covered spaces) are park-and-walk. Economy Lot A (850 spaces) and Economy Lot B (1,250 spaces) use the free shuttle.
The SMP Garage clearance is 6 feet 8 inches, so a tall van or a roof box will not fit. Send those vehicles to an uncovered lot.
Galveston cruise parking Terminal 16
Terminal 16 has its own garage and two surface lots within walking distance, plus a VIP lot and a VIP indoor garage. The garage shares the same 6 foot 8 inch clearance. If your ship is MSC or Norwegian, this is the short-walk option.
Galveston cruise parking rates
The port’s reservation pages print no flat daily rate. They say prices depend on the lot, covered or uncovered, and how close it sits to the terminal. The figure you pay appears when you book, so confirm it on the port’s own page for your sail date.
Park N Cruise does publish prices. Its own site lists $20 a day for outdoor gated parking and $25 a day for indoor secured parking, prepaid, and notes that rates vary with occupancy and departure date.
| Option | Per-day cost | Distance or shuttle | Booking |
|---|---|---|---|
| Port Express Lot or SMP Garage (Terminals 25 and 28) | Shown at booking | Park and walk | Port reservations |
| Port Economy Lot A or B (Terminals 25 and 28) | Shown at booking | Free shuttle | Port reservations |
| Port North Premium or Pier 10 (Terminal 10) | Shown at booking | Short walk | Port reservations |
| Port South Lot (Terminal 10) | Shown at booking | Free shuttle | Port reservations |
| Park N Cruise outdoor | $20 | Across the street | Prepay online, drive-ups welcome |
| Park N Cruise indoor | $25 | Across the street | Prepay online, drive-ups welcome |
| EZ Cruise Parking | Shown at booking | Two blocks; shuttle 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. | Online reservation |
| Lighthouse Parking | Shown at booking | Under a mile; free shuttle | Online reservation |
Prepaying also earns points. The port’s free loyalty program gives one point per dollar spent online, a 50-point sign-up credit, and $1 off per 10 points, but gate payments earn nothing. The reservation page also notes that cash is not accepted, only Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover.
Galveston cruise parking off site
Park N Cruise calls itself the closest lot to the cruise terminals, and you walk across the street to board. It cannot take trailers or oversized vehicles because of the building layout. The upside is no shuttle to wait for.
EZ Cruise Parking sits at 2727 Santa Fe Place, two blocks from the terminal, with 24-hour security. Check-in runs 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the shuttle leaves by 2:30 p.m. Lighthouse Parking is under a mile away, serves all four terminals, and lists a 5 to 10 minute ride. It opens 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on cruise days.
Those early-afternoon cutoffs matter more than the daily price. I would ask any off-port lot what happens when your ship gets in after the shuttle stops, before I booked it. The port’s own lots are patrolled 24 hours a day by Port Police.
Galveston cruise parking shuttle
The port’s free shuttle serves Economy Lot A, Economy Lot B, the South Lot, and the Terminal 16 garage for Terminal 10 only. The port’s FAQ puts the wait at about every 5 to 7 minutes, and many buses take wheelchairs and scooters.

Add the wait, the ride and the bag unloading to your walking time. Port lots usually open at 9 a.m. on sailing days, so there is no benefit to showing up before that.
Galveston cruise port drop off
Passengers may unload luggage and companions at the designated loading areas, and porters meet you at the terminal. That makes a drop-off the cleanest start for a group. With nieces and nephews along, I would unload everyone first and then take the car to its lot.
Skipping parking altogether works if you are staying on the island the night before. A rideshare or taxi to the curb saves the lot fee, the shuttle and the walk back to the car at the end of the trip.
Houston to Galveston cruise port
From Houston, take Interstate 45 South straight onto the island. From the east, the port’s directions send you along Interstate 10 West and Highway 87 South to the Bolivar ferry.

Houston to Galveston is about an hour without traffic. Hobby is the shorter run from the south side of Houston, and Bush Intercontinental adds miles and city traffic. A ferry line is a wait you cannot control, so I would leave extra margin on that route.
If you are flying in, Galveston Limo lists one-way fares of $28 per person from either Houston airport on its own site, with a booking window of at least 24 hours. Luggage is two suitcases and one carry-on, and an extra bag costs $20 each way. Its listed trip time is 60 to 90 minutes.
A second operator, houstontogalveston.com, lists $120 for a sedan with one to three passengers from Hobby, before tax and fees. Compare that with $28 times your group size. A PreCheck lane also shortens the airport side, and our TSA PreCheck vs Global Entry vs CLEAR comparison covers which program fits.
Galveston cruise boarding
Follow the check-in slot your cruise line assigns. The port’s guide asks you to leave time for parking, the shuttle and security screening. I would aim to be parked and walking a bag toward the terminal soon after the lots open, not circling the island at noon.
Keep passports, boarding documents and anything you will need on day one in a carry-on, because checked bags can reach the cabin later than you do. Our first cruise packing list and the longer cruise packing list cover what goes where.

If you arrive well ahead of your slot, the Strand and the Seawall are the nearest places to spend an hour. On the way back, porters help with luggage and loading the car.
